Blogging: Why I’m Never Happy

For some of the people who have used The Online Money Box in the past, you may have seen a lot of changes. The theme of the blog changes quite a lot and I plan to continue to change it until I am happy with what the state of the blog is. This is, in my opinion, a positive thing because it makes me change my blog until something works correctly and gets the results I want.

Blogging is much more than just writing content and the style of your writing, the layout of different things and the posting times are very important assets to consider in depth. You will more than likely not get it right for a couple of times – but that’s okay. Change is a very important action in order to move forward. There are different positions of ads that will work better than others, better places to showcase your content and so on, and the only way to find out what works the best is to use the method of trail and error.

I think my blog can still massively improve but I would say this version is better than previous attempts and I will keep on changing until sure that the creation I have is the best possible combination of elements that can be achieved at this stage. Honestly, I may be too hypocritical of myself and the project I have but that is not really a bad thing either if I look at it deeply. Without dragging on about my blog, I want it to be the best possible for myself and the readers that discover the project.

“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
― William Faulkner

First impressions count for a lot when someone is visiting your blog, and I am sure that what I have currently is not great enough for a first impression. The theme I got does not have enough of a header of which a logo is typically used to ‘sell yourself’ and the general layout is not good enough in my opinion to convert guests into subscribers or repeat users. A change is required.

A challenge

At this stage I want to set a small challenge to you all… look at your own blog from a point of a guest, a first time visitor, what do they see first? Why should they stick around? These should be things that have already been considered but look deeper than what you already have. I believe in the fact that there is always improvements to be made no matter how many times you have refined things. Spend a couple of days just looking at your blog and making improvements to what you have, keep changing and see how the users react to certain things.

What do you think? Do I worry too much about the look of the blog? It is actually okay? I just feel like there is a lot of room for improvement on almost all projects and that is what I am working towards here.
